About the Authors
Shannon Le Mintier, RD, LD, earned a bachelor’s degree in dietetics from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and completed her post graduate education at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino, California. She has been in practice since 1997 as a registered dietitian and fitness professional providing services and classes for individuals, corporations, amateur and professional athletes, as well as youth and college sport teams. Shannon has expertise in various specialties including weight loss and gain, eating disorders, sports and athletics, and women’s health. As a member of many professional associations, Shannon keeps herself on the cutting edge of health, fitness and science.
Betsy Markle is a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Personal Trainer. Her career path started with a nationally known Endocrinologist and Author, Diana Schwarzbein M.D., working as the main clinician and researcher. From her experience at the Schwarzbein Institute, Betsy was inspired to start her own comprehensive nutrition & fitness program, Sunshine Wellness. She now offers a meal delivery service in Santa Barbara, California area.
Dr. Thaddeus Jacobs received his medical degree from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine and has two masters degrees in Oriental medicine. Dr. Jacobs is licensed in California as both a primary care naturopathic doctor and an acupuncturist, and he practices a blend of progressive, conventional and ancient, traditional medicine. Co-founder of the Santa Barbara Center for Natural Medicine, Dr. Jacobs specializes in pain management, regenerative injection therapies, hormonal and immune-system imbalances and digestive disorders. Dr. Jacobs has co-authored two editions of Interactions Between Drugs and Natural Medicines which brings complex information to consumers and health professionals in an easy-to-use manner regarding the safe use of pharmaceutical drugs and natural medicines. Dr. Jacobs chooses to reduce his carbon footprint by driving a Prius and eating a vegan diet.
Dr. Trevor Holly Cates received her medical degree from the National College of Natural Medicine and went on to study environmental medicine through SpiritMed at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. The first woman licensed as a naturopathic doctor in California, Dr. Cates practices holistic medicine at the Santa Barbara Center for Natural Medicine with a specialty in women’s and children’s health. She successfully treats a variety of acute and chronic health concerns with a holistic approach using homeopathy, herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, environmental medicine, and craniosacral therapy. She lectures and writes articles on natural medicine for various local and national publications. Actively involved in promoting the naturopathic profession, she has twice been appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger to California’s Bureau of Naturopathic Medicine Advisory Council. Dr. Cates grew up on an organic farm in Virginia and continues to live a healthy lifestyle with her husband and three children.
